Starting next academic year, all Diploma and Certificate courses will no longer be held at Fourah Bay College (FBC) campus, but in different school campuses within the country, the college has said.

The programmes will now be available at W.A.M Colligate School campus in Freetown, while in Makeni, they will be available at the UMC Secondary School. For Bo the college will be using UCC School campus and in Kenema, the HRSS campus will be used and that classes in those places will be held in the afternoon, only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The decision to move the programmes from the college’s campus was part of a re-engineering process of the University of Sierra Leone, to provide community colleges in other parts of the country to improve services.

But the move will definitely put an end to a system where diploma two students in the college were allowed to automatically proceed to degree courses without a fresh university application that requires five credits WASSCE for all students who wish to enroll for undergraduate degree courses.

Students need only four credits in WASSCE including English Language to be admitted for diploma programmes at Fourah Bay College which before now could automatically move them from Diploma 2 straight to second year degree courses depending on performance without the traditional five credits university requirement.

The college has been trying to eliminate that system of enrolment from diploma into the degree courses. But students have stiffly resisted the move. So moving the Diploma Courses from the college campus could also be seen as a push by the University to eliminate definitely eliminate the system.

After completing their diploma and certificates courses from the various campuses above, students who wish to further their studies at the FBC campus would now have to apply with the complete university of Sierra Leone WASSCE requirement.
