Former Law Director, Dr. Abubakarr Bangura, has disclosed that he is currently outside Sierra Leone and in hiding within the West African region, following what he described as continued security actions against him, including the barricading of his residence by armed officers.
Speaking in response to questions about his whereabouts, Dr. Bangura said he is “currently around West Africa,” but confirmed that he is not in Sierra Leone at the moment. He explained that his decision to go into hiding was prompted by what he described as persistent actions by security personnel.
“I need to hide because even yesterday (Monday, March 30, 2026), they sent OSD officers to barricade my house, so not even my security guards or anybody can be allowed to enter into or step out of my compound,” he stated.
According to Dr. Bangura, the actions took place despite an ongoing investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), where he said the matter concerning him has already been reported.
He further alleged that on the same day, officials from the ACC entered his office and removed items. “Yesterday, the Anti-Corruption Commission broke into my office, took something away, and late in the evening, they sent OSD personnel to barricade my house, and till this point, nobody is allowed to enter into my house,” he said.
Dr. Bangura also claimed that the locks to his office were changed, raising concerns about the manner in which the actions were carried out. “I’m only imagining if I was there meeting these people because this is the second time. On the first time, before I left, they sent people to my house again,” he added.
While confirming that no criminal charges have been filed against him, Dr. Bangura stated that he is willing to cooperate with the Anti-Corruption Commission. He noted that he intends to present himself before the Commission and will secure legal representation.
“I will willingly present myself to the ACC, and I will retain legal representation,” he said, while maintaining that the situation surrounding him has been marked by intimidation.
“It is just this intimidation, sending armed guards and other people to barricade my compound, preventing people from entering into my compound, breaking into my office, taking away things are things which I need to let people know that I need to take precaution,” Dr. Bangura added.
Efforts to obtain a response from the Anti-Corruption Commission and security authorities regarding the allegations were not immediately successful. The situation continues to unfold as investigations by the ACC remain ongoing.
