The Sierra Leone Police has arrested six individuals following a major drug raid in central Freetown.
According to a police notice, the operation was carried out by officers of the Eastern Police Division as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking and distribution within the capital.
Police disclosed that a large quantity of suspected narcotics was recovered during the raid.
“Officers recovered 785 wraps of white powder and loose substance suspected to be cocaine,” the statement read.
The suspects have been identified as Taio John, Mayor Azan, Ola Aza, Musa Bah, and Alpha Bah, while the sixth individual is yet to be formally identified by authorities.
Sierraloaded understands that the suspects have since been transferred to the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The latest bust comes amid growing public concern over the increasing circulation of hard drugs in urban communities, particularly among young people.
Civil society groups and health experts have repeatedly warned about the rise in substance abuse and the growing number of drug addicts in Sierra Leone, calling for stronger enforcement, rehabilitation programmes, and community-based interventions to address what many describe as a worsening social crisis.
