The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has confirmed that Dutch journalist Sophie Van Leeuwen was recently interrogated at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters in Freetown.
The interrogation concerned her activities in Sierra Leone.
Following the interrogation, Van Leeuwen was released and is free to continue her work.
The SLP, in a press statement released on February 13, 2025, assured the public of its commitment to press freedom, public safety, and the rule of law.
Hahaha 🤣 ar laff pan krio sierra Leone police on duty
If na sierra Leone journalist now e go answer questions Tai 1 week in CID
Just to distract the woman to do her job
Oh salon
There is nothing like free speech in Sierra Leone. Individuals have been interrogated but their release has not been made easier.
There’s nothing good to write about concerning free speech. If citizens are not allowed to speak freely, how can the government be in the position to protect, promote and preserve democracy.
What Dutch government & America will do if any Dutc journalist go aagainst the ruls of press freedom /
cyber crime in Sierra Leone & datained. When aljazeral journalists was arrested & detained for years in Egypt to outlets the late president Mohammed Mousen in 2011, the Aljazeral & the entire international community asked for there released, dose Fatta government adhere to them? What wrong with Sierra Leone if any foreigners especially European & Americans caused any crime & detained? Are we not a state rule by executive, the legislative & the judiciary?
Children playing with their mothers breast, but not the tentacles or the bolls of their fathers. Don’t play with the Dutch citizens. Remember they bursted Hitler’s soldiers alone before the arrivals of the Americans. I call no fowl’s I just throw my corns. Those have ears let them hear as the wind passing by. 🛑🙌🏾 One of the two,you help him escape from your country to his bosses to south America or the dutch government will pick up themselves but if Sierra Leone government boldly give him out to the Dutch government those involved will suffer a lot of consequence at the end. Think wise 😉 there is a lot of eggs in your basket 🧺😱🫣 beware 😯!
Congratulations to the SLP for a work well done.
However, I want to express my concern on the fact that it is safe to say that this is an indirect call to alarm Jos Liejdekkers or Urmah Sheriff to continue to be out of sight or be careful.
Is the Dutch journalist’s name, Sophie Van Leeuwen, on the immigration record?
If Yes
Why is the police so committed in this case to inform the public and not in the case of Jos Liejdekkers Urmah Sheriff?
I believe her coming into Sierra Leone was not through illegal means but by our country’s immigration. Or is this a way to say that the SLP is doubting the competency of the immigration?
Let dem go and check again if her name is the same as in the immigration data or record, and why is Jos Liejdekkers now identified by the SLP as Urmah Sheriff?
Sierra Leoneans, it time to upgrade.
White people know exactly what they are doing most of they are honest
They failed to invite the drugs lords in the country just imagine and they are putting it now in the media as of they have done great job leaving what is more matter
They are nervous she’ll ask the “wrong” questions about the drug dealings of Maada Bio and his drug cartel family that they think our journalists will be afraid to ask. Den crase. I hope she looked Sellu in the eye and told him I am here to investigate why a major Dutch drug dealer who js on the run from a 24 year sentence, happened to be hanging out with Maada Bio and his family. Have they questioned members of Bio’s family in their investigations? Crazy how they knew a journalist was in town and they quickly brought her in for no good reason, but an international fugitive is floating around in the country, with a new SL passport no less. They have no reason to hold her and they would have found that out real quick if they tried to keep her.
Sophie Van Leeuwen, please do a good job and expose the klepto, drug dealing Bio family for us. If they took your phone from you, don’t use it, they have planted spyware in it.
