The Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), Edmond Sylvester Alpha, met with the Irish Ambassador to Sierra Leone, H.E. Patrick McManus, on Monday.

The courtesy visit, held on March 30, focused on strengthening bilateral ties between the ECSL and the Irish Embassy. According to the Commission, discussions centered on enhancing collaboration to support credible, transparent, and inclusive elections in Sierra Leone.

Monday’s meeting is part of a wider, proactive outreach strategy launched by the ECSL earlier this month. On March 24, the Commission formally announced that Chairman Alpha would begin a series of high-level engagements with international partners, government agencies, and political parties.

The initiative is designed to address stakeholder inquiries early in the electoral cycle, provide updates on the Commission’s preparedness, and align future operations with international best practices.

“Our goal in the engagements is to ensure absolute professionalism and transparency,” Chairman Alpha stated regarding the outreach program. “By engaging our partners early, we are building the foundation of trust necessary for a credible 2028 electoral cycle.”

The ECSL noted that these ongoing diplomatic and domestic discussions are critical to fostering collaborative preparations and ensuring the operational integrity of the upcoming 2028 elections.
