The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) is currently hosting a high-level stakeholder engagement session in Freetown, bringing together key actors in the country’s electoral process to assess the performance of the Tripartite Secretariat.

The meeting involves Electoral Commissioners and senior management staff of ECSL, alongside members of an Ad-hoc Evaluation Committee tasked with reviewing the effectiveness and operational performance of the Secretariat.

The committee is chaired by Deputy Minister of Political and Public Affairs, Philip Tetemah Tondoneh, and comprises representatives from government, political parties, and civil society organizations. Key institutions represented include the Campaign for Human Rights and Development International, Women’s Forum Sierra Leone, and the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists.

The engagement is viewed as a critical step toward strengthening transparency, accountability, and public trust in Sierra Leone’s electoral systems, particularly in the wake of recent political developments and growing calls for reforms.

Discussions are expected to focus on evaluating the Secretariat’s operational structure, achievements, and challenges, while identifying areas for improvement to enhance its role in supporting electoral governance.

Observers note that the outcome of the assessment could significantly influence ongoing efforts to implement key electoral recommendations and deepen collaboration among stakeholders in safeguarding democratic processes.

Further updates are expected as the meeting progresses.
