ECSL Boss Presides Over Pentecostal Fellowship of Sierra Leone Election

In a unanimous and transparent election, Bishop Akintayo Sam-Jolly has been re-elected as President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Sierra Leone (PFSL) for a second four-year term, covering 2024 to 2028. The election took place during PFSL’s First Annual General Meeting, held from September 30 to October 1, 2024, at Bethel Temple International Ministries in Freetown. The event was centred on the theme “Establishing Apostolic Foundations for National Cohesion and Development.”

The peaceful election saw the nomination and election of a new executive, with several members retaining their positions. Bishop Sam-Jolly expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him and the executive, emphasizing the importance of unity within the Pentecostal community and reflecting on the significant progress the Fellowship has achieved since its formation in 2020.

In his address, Sam-Jolly spoke about the mission of PFSL, which was established to unite independent Pentecostal churches in Sierra Leone under one umbrella. He reaffirmed the Fellowship’s goals of fostering close relationships among member churches, encouraging joint evangelism efforts, and promoting Christian ethics and integrity. He also stressed the need for collaboration with the government and other Christian organizations to promote religious tolerance and freedom of worship across the nation.

Bishop Sam-Jolly reiterated PFSL’s commitment to advancing its seven-pillar vision, which includes fostering unity, encouraging growth, promoting collaboration, and increasing the visibility of Pentecostal churches both within Sierra Leone and abroad. He expressed confidence in the Fellowship’s ability to continue making positive strides in these areas.

Sierra Leone’s Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mohamed Kenewui Konneh, who supervised the PFSL election, commended the Fellowship for its smooth and credible process. He highlighted the importance of national cohesion, especially considering the divisions that surfaced after the June 2023 elections. Konneh urged the PFSL to continue playing a pivotal role in promoting peace and unity in the country through its spiritual and moral guidance.

“As Psalm 11:3 states, ‘If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?’ Apostolic foundations are key to achieving national cohesion and development,” Konneh remarked, calling on PFSL members to remain dedicated to their faith and to fostering unity throughout Sierra Leone.
