The Ministry of Energy has rejected claims that electricity supply was diverted from Makeni to Freetown, describing the allegation as unfounded and illogical.

Deputy Minister of Energy I, Edmond Nonie, made the clarification during the weekly government press conference held in Freetown on Tuesday.

Nonie explained that Freetown requires approximately 100 megawatts of electricity, while Makeni generates only about 6 megawatts, making it technically impossible for power to be diverted from Makeni to significantly impact supply in the capital.

He assured the public that the government would not deprive one city in order to supply another, emphasizing that such actions would contradict national energy distribution policies.

The Deputy Minister also confirmed that recent maintenance work affecting electricity supply in Makeni and Magburaka had been completed, with power expected to be restored at the time of the briefing.
