The Technical Adviser in the Ministry of Energy, Dr. Patrick Tarawalli has told journalists and Civil Society Organization Activists that, EDSA is losing 35% of its revenue base due to illegal connections.
Dr. Tarawalli made this disclosure during the Media and Civil Society Organization retreat in Kenema, where all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies briefed journalists and CSOs about the activities going on in their respective places.
According to him, before this time, EDSA was losing 40% of revenue to illegal consumers, noting that with concerted efforts by the Presidential Task Force, comprising of the police, military, CSOs, journalists, and EDSA workers they have been able to reduce the figure.
“This is more the reason why the rate of thieving has dropped down from 40% to 35%. The Energy Ministry is heavily subsidized by the Ministry of Finance and development partners without which it would have been a big problem for the sector,” he told the gathering.
He assured that government is determined to provide energy for the people and fight illegal connections in the country.
Before this time, the Technical Adviser briefed his audience about the giant move made by the government to improve electricity supply in both the rural communities and urban centers.
