The Management of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has announced a delay in the completion of the Bumbuna annual maintenance activity, originally scheduled to conclude on May 23, 2024. According to a press release from EDSA, unforeseen challenges have affected the maintenance timeline.
In a correspondence from the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company, it was revealed that a structural defect was discovered on the Radial Gate of the dam. The Radial Gate is crucial for regulating the outflow of water from the dam. To address this issue, the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company, along with the contractor ‘We Build,’ has flown in a hydrological specialist from Italy to conduct proper maintenance on the Radial Gate, ensuring its safety and optimal operation.
EDSA emphasized that continuous efforts and collaboration are being invested to ensure a swift resolution. The Authority particularly addressed consumers in Makeni and Magburuka, assuring them that the maintenance work on the defective area will be expedited, leading to the prompt restoration of power supply from the Bumbuna Hydroelectric Power Dam to Makeni, Magburuka, and Freetown.
EDSA apologized for the inconvenience caused by this delay and promised that the situation will be resolved as soon as possible.
