The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has issued an apology to residents in Freetown following a power outage that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, August 21, 2024.

The outage was caused by a blast on the 33Kv incomer line between Wilberforce and Blackhall Road, which supplies 26.3 Megawatts of generated capacity. As a result, several communities in Freetown experienced intermittent power supply.

The affected areas include Signal Hill, Main Motor Road, Wilberforce, IMATT, Regent, Bathurst Gloucester, Tree Planting, EACON Leicester Peak, Spur Road, Spur Loop (partially), Wilberforce Barracks, Wilberforce Village, Lumley, Atlantic Beach Road, and Goderich onto Sussex.

EDSA is working closely with its operations and maintenance contractor, Webuild, and the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. The authority has assured the public that power will be restored to the affected areas once the necessary repairs are completed.

EDSA has expressed its regret for any inconvenience caused by the power outage and has reaffirmed its commitment to improving its service delivery.
