The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), in a press release, has condemned the Persistent vandalism, theft, and unlawful interference with electricity infrastructure across the country.
The authority made this statement following an unfortunate incident that occurred at its transformer installed at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology in Hill Station on Tuesday, 29th December 2025.
According to EDSA, a joint investigation by the Sierra Leone Police and itself revealed that an individual attempted to illegally interfere with the transformer installation while in operation.
Unfortunately, during the process of detaching the Medium Voltage Riser, he was electrocuted and was later found dead by the side of the transformer. Upon confirmation that the body was lifeless, the Authority and the SLP immediately contacted the Connaught Hospital Mortuary to collect the corpse and to also initiate burial proceedings in accordance with established procedures.
Meanwhile, the Authority had previously recorded similar incidents in Bo, Kenema and other parts of Freetown due to attempted acts of theft and vandalism by unknown persons that resulted in fatality.
The Authority strongly condemns all acts of vandalism, theft, and unlawful interference with electricity infrastructure and further notes that such actions not only disrupt power supply to communities and institutions but also pose serious risks to life and property.
EDSA emphasised that all electricity infrastructure is extremely dangerous and should only be handled by trained and authorised personnel. Members of the public are urged to report any suspicious activities around EDSA facilities to the nearest police station.
EDSA extends condolences to the family of the deceased and reiterates its commitment to ensuring the safety, reliability, and sustainability of electricity supply across the country.
