The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has announced power supply disruptions affecting several communities in Freetown, citing network failures within its distribution system.

In a public notice issued on December 24, EDSA said it is currently facing power distribution challenges in the Priscilla Street, Hennessey Street and Morgan Lane areas.

According to the authority, technical teams have already identified the faults linked to the affected locations and are working to resolve them in order to restore electricity as soon as possible.

EDSA said the outage is affecting a wide range of communities across the city. In the Priscilla Street area, the impacted locations include Sander Street, Guy Street, John Street, parts of Robert Street, Cole Street, Priscilla Street, Naimbana Street, parts of Victoria Street, Edward Street, parts of Adelaide Street, parts of Kroo Town Road, parts of Berwick Street, Lewis Street, Richard Street, Jones Street and Upper West Brook Street.

The disruption also extends to the Rokel Upper Old Railway Line community, including Saja Town, the Belgium community off Sheriff Drive, the Lumley Regent Road community and the POW community.

Communities affected around Hennessey Street include Kingtom Bridge, the 7up community, Accession Town, Hennessey Street itself, as well as parts of Kroo Town Road and Adelaide Street. In the Morgan Street area, EDSA said Saint John community is affected along with parts of Sander Street, Berwick Street, Dundas Street, Robert Street, Savage Street and Victoria Street.

The outage further affects Smythes Street and surrounding areas, including Congo Market, parts of Dundas Street, Atkin Street, parts of Campbell Street and William Street, as well as the Aberdeen 2 community.

EDSA stated that repair works are expected to be completed by Friday, December 26, 2025. The authority noted, however, that efforts are underway to provide temporary power solutions to the affected communities in order to reduce the impact of the outage on Christmas celebrations.

The electricity provider apologized to customers for the inconvenience caused and appealed for patience as engineers continue work to restore normal power supply. The update was issued directly by the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority as part of its public communication on the ongoing network failure.
