The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has announced major changes to the process of purchasing electricity meters in Sierra Leone, introducing a new direct-sale system aimed at making meters more affordable and improving customer service nationwide.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, EDSA revealed that it has officially discontinued the sale of meters through its former accredited vendors Holley Technology Ltd, Kalleone, and Elite Solution. The Authority will now handle all meter sales and installations directly.

Under the new arrangement, customers will pay a modest connection fee that covers both the purchase and installation of their meters. The updated fees are:

NLe 1,500 for a Single-Phase Meter

NLe 2,500 for a Three-Phase Meter

In addition, customers must pay an inspectorate fee of NLe150 to a certified electrical contractor responsible for assessing the readiness and safety of the premises before installation.

EDSA reiterated that customers experiencing any challenges should contact the Authority directly for assistance.

To complete the purchase process, applicants are required to present a valid form of identification such as a National ID card, driver’s license, or passport along with two passport-sized photographs. Meter fees must be deposited at the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank using the following details:

Account Name: New Service Connection

Account Number: 003 00111 562111 0282

Application forms can be accessed at several EDSA locations nationwide, including:

EDSA urged the public to report any illegal sale or installation of meters outside the new scheme, warning that offenders will face prosecution. The Authority assured consumers that sufficient meters are available to support the nationwide rollout.

According to the notice, the new initiative is designed to reduce financial pressure on customers, ensure fair and accurate billing, and enhance transparency and service delivery in the electricity sector.

EDSA reaffirmed its commitment to providing reliable, sustainable, and customer-friendly electricity services to meet the growing needs of Sierra Leoneans.
