The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has issued a stern warning to the public about a misleading voice note circulating on social media regarding meter upgrades.
The audio clip provides incorrect instructions on how to input token numbers during the upgrade process.
EDSA has emphasized that the information disseminated in the voice note is entirely false and should be disregarded. The authority has urged consumers to follow the correct steps for meter upgrades:
- Purchase electricity tokens from EDSA or any of its authorized aggregators (Q-cell, Orange, Africell, Dycar, Lynx, vend tech, and Mercy Holdings).
- Input the first 20 digits of the token and wait for 15 seconds.
- Input the second 20 digits and wait for another 15 seconds.
- Input the final 20 digits. The meter should display ’02’ followed by ‘success’ before showing the total token purchased.
Successful completion of these steps indicates that a meter has been upgraded to the second generation of tokens.
EDSA has advised customers to be cautious and to only rely on information from accredited sources. To verify any information, the public is encouraged to contact EDSA directly by calling 672 or via WhatsApp on 077672672.
