The Ministry of  Basic and Senior  Secondary  Education  Conrad Sackey  in collaboration with  representatives from the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) and other development Partner have  launched and hand over 78,000 menstrual hygiene kits in Western Rural, Port Loko, Bombali, Bo and Kailahun districts.

A statement from the Ministry reads “We are seeing record numbers of girls attending school in Sierra Leone, but it is vital that they are supported to confidently participate and thrive throughout their education. When so many girls are forced to miss school every month due to their menstrual period, it has a detrimental impact on their learning and confidence, which affects their opportunities later in life,”

Menstrual Hygiene  Kits  are personal care products used during menstruation, vaginal discharge, and other bodily functions related to the  vagina.

The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education further affirmed it commitment  to creating a system that is inclusive and gender-responsive as this initiative is aligned with this goal.
