The attention of the Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone in Cairo, the Arab Republic of Egypt has been drawn to information relating to an incident involving a staff of the Embassy, Mr. Alie Fofanah (Gardener).
On Monday 11 July 2022, at precisely 12 pm, Mr. Alie Fofanah reported an attack at his home. According to Mr. Fofana three men forcefully entered his home brandishing knives and demanded money. The victim was stabbed multiple times by the assailants suffering significant injuries before neighbors came to his rescue. At the moment, the Embassy wishes to inform the public that Alie Fofana is recovering gradually.
The matter was reported to the police and a follow-up investigation is going on. So far, one of the suspects was apprehended at the scene and in police custody.
The Embassy wishes to inform the general public that this is an isolated incident and should not be used to generalize the situation in the Arab Republic of Egypt. The protection of Sierra Leoneans in Egypt is of utmost priority to the Embassy and no effort will be spared to ensure that all the Sierra Leoneans are safe as we seek to further strengthen the excellent bilateral relationship existing between the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Arab Republic of Egypt.
