The Minister of Energy and Food Security, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, has taken swift actions in response to the issue of electricity theft in the country.
The Minister revealed during a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ conference room that following thorough investigations three employees of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) were found wanting.
Two of them, names withheld, have been dismissed, and the other, detained at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Freetown.
The staff member held in detention is to also be dismissed after the investigation is concluded, according to the Minister.
Minister Kanja also disclosed that the ministry is working on activating a task force that will conduct operations geared at bringing electricity theft culprits to book.
He further revealed that a review of the Electricity Act is underway to enhance regulations and improve laws within the energy sector, with the goal of fostering a more orderly and accountable environment.
