The entertainment industry and stakeholders convened at the Office of the Ambassador of Entertainment, Kao Denero on Monday, December 9, 2024, to finalize arrangements for the funeral of the late Steady Bongo, a trailblazer in Sierra Leone’s music industry.
The meeting, held at the ambassador’s office on 58 Bathurst Street, brought together notable figures and representatives to plan a befitting farewell for the legendary artist.
Key attendees included prominent entertainers Jimmy-B, Base Aphonyx, Prezo Colabo, DJ Kallox, and Mammy Hancils from the Legal Aid Board, alongside members of Steady Bongo’s family and other stakeholders. The gathering underscored the industry’s recognition of Steady Bongo’s transformative contributions to Sierra Leonean music.
Plans were outlined to honour the artist’s legacy through a series of commemorative events. A vigil and candlelight night is scheduled for December 17 and 18 at Jigibonta, a symbolic venue considered accessible to fans, entertainers, and well-wishers. The event aims to provide an opportunity for the public to pay their respects and celebrate the life of Steady Bongo.
Fundraising committees have been established to ensure the necessary resources for funeral arrangements.
These committees will coordinate efforts to engage individuals, organizations, and partners in supporting the initiatives. Attendees emphasized the importance of transparency in managing and utilizing the funds raised.
