The Former President, HE Dr Ernest Bai Koroma, departed Freetown Saturday, December 3 2022, to join others in the West Africa Elders Forum (WAEF) for a Pre – Elections Assessment Mission in Abuja, ahead of Nigeria’s 2023 General Elections. The Mission is scheduled to take place from December 4th to 7th 2022.
The West African Elders Forum (WAEF), pioneered by the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, focuses on building peace, promoting democracy and mediating conflict. The Abuja Mission is in furtherance of WAEF’s objectives but the emphasis is on preventing conflict related to election, engender a credible election outcome and a peaceful transition.
“The decline of democracy and good governance and the threat to peaceful transitions in West Africa demand proactive engagements when it matters. Nigeria is too big and too important to be allowed to slide back on its democratic path. It is imperative that we continue to dialogue with key stakeholders in pursuit of peaceful, free and credible elections,” said former President Koroma.
Forum Elders will engage key stakeholders in Nigeria as the country braces for its Presidential Elections in 2023. “It is our expectation that Nigeria will provide an abiding electoral example for other nations to emulate,” emphasized the Sierra Leonean former president.
