The First Lady of Sierra Leone, Madam Fatima Bio, has visited Kambia, the northern district of Sierra Leone, to distribute sanitary pads to school girls.

The distribution took place on Monday 27th February 2023, to different schools in that part of the country.

At least 4000 pupils are said to have received the free pads which were confirmed will last them for a whole year.

Speaking to girls during the distribution, Mrs Bio stated that every girl in the country deserves a pack of pads from her, noting that it will make them comfortable in school.

“every girl should be in school very confident that have something on to protect them when they’re on their menses.” She added.

On Thursday, 2 February 2023, the First Lady, Mrs Fatima Bio and the President, Dr Julius Maada Bio officially launched the nationwide free sanitary pad distribution for girls in secondary schools.

This is a result of complementing the flagship program of his Excellency President Julius Maada Bio-free quality education by keeping girls in school.

School girls in Bo, Port Loko, Kono and Kambia have benefitted from the free sanitary pads packages.
