Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Fatima Bio has called on world leaders and other individuals concerned to have a global solidarity against gender-based violence.
She made this call at the United Nations General Assembly 78th (UNGA78) during the pre-high level week that incorporated different stakeholders around the world. She has stood firm to maintain and protect the issues of women and girls backed up with her key project in the country “hands off our girls” that has made a positive wave in the country as well.
In her statement, she said that participation and collaboration is great deal to have things done in a positive way by everyone, adding that, the Hands Off Our Girls campaign and the 18th November world day will participate in the discussion to eliminate gender based violence globally under the patronage of the Ford Foundation.
The Sierra Leone’s First Lady launched the Hands Off Our Girls campaign on the backdrop that Sierra Leone was experiencing high rate of sexual violence and penetration.
The launch was supported by several reforms including an amendment in the country’s sexual laws.
