Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, joined workers at the Koidu Limited Mining Company in Koidu City, Kono District, today in a peaceful protest aimed at improving working conditions.
The protest centered on several key demands, including the recognition of the workers’ union, a 30% salary increase, living allowances, overtime pay, the provision of safe drinking water, and financial autonomy.
Fatima Maada Bio, a native of Kono, stood with the workers, showing her support for their call for fair treatment and better working conditions.
Workers expressed their appreciation for the First Lady’s presence, as many are from her hometown. They voiced hope that the management of Koidu Limited Mining Company would take their demands seriously and work toward addressing their concerns.
The protest comes as workers continue to push for improvements in their work environment. As of now, the employees are waiting for a response from the company’s leadership to resolve the issues raised during the protest.
A wright step on it direction. It shows the love and interest madam first lady have for his people especially from that part of mama salone. But my Question is Did those workers #SEEK police Clearance?? If no let that previlance also reflect on the Ordinary S/ leonean who wants to express their position on the Cost of living that’s really difficult for Us..
Structural protest.
Ordinary citizens will seek for a peaceful protest but won’t be allowed. If freedom of expression is potent in Sierra Leone, there’s a need for state authorities to take action in ensuring that what we saw the First Lady did can also happen to us.
