First Lady, Fatima Maada Bio, has departed the country to honor an invitation to participate in the Global Coalition Summit titled “Fostering the Future Together”, scheduled to take place at the White House.
Speaking ahead of her engagement, the First Lady described the opportunity as both an honor and a profound responsibility.
She emphasized her commitment to serving as a voice for Africa, representing not only the continent but also millions of children whose futures are shaped by decisions made today.
Mrs. Bio underscored the urgent need to prioritize the safety, dignity, and well-being of children, particularly in an increasingly digital world.
She noted that while Africa continues to embrace technology as a driver of education, innovation, and opportunity, it must also address the growing risks associated with digital spaces.
“Our children are navigating environments that can both empower and endanger them,” she stated, calling for a collective effort among global leaders, policymakers, and advocates to ensure that digital platforms remain safe, inclusive, and responsible for all children.
The First Lady expressed sincere appreciation to Melania Trump for extending the invitation and entrusting her with the role of representing Africa within the coalition. She described the gesture as a reflection of a shared global commitment to child protection.
As part of her participation, Mrs. Bio is also rallying fellow African First Ladies to support the initiative, to build a united front alongside First Spouses from across the world. She highlighted the importance of collaboration in advancing stronger protections, promoting ethical digital practices, and developing global frameworks that prioritize child safety.
“Africa’s voice is essential in shaping these conversations,” she noted, pointing to the continent’s rapidly growing and youthful population.
Reaffirming her commitment, the First Lady stated that her involvement in the coalition is driven by a clear objective: to advocate for systems that educate, protect, and empower children to become safe, informed, and responsible digital citizens.
Describing the moment as one of purpose rather than mere participation, Mrs. Bio called for urgency, unity, and unwavering resolve in safeguarding the future of children across Africa and the world.
She concluded by expressing her readiness to contribute meaningfully to the coalition and to work closely with global partners in securing a safer digital future for all children.
