Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio has honoured the certification of 450 healthcare workers from the Defense Medical Services, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening Sierra Leone’s healthcare system.
She made these remarks while presiding over the certification ceremony held at the Armed Forces Training Center in Benguima, where she stated that Sierra Leone is undergoing a transformative journey under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio.
According to the First Lady, significant progress has been recorded in the health sector since the current administration took office. She pointed to the construction of new hospitals and medical facilities across the country as key steps toward improving healthcare delivery nationwide.

The First Lady noted that the newly certified personnel are expected to form part of the workforce at the newly constructed 34 Military Hospital. She described the facility as a modern institution designed to handle complex medical cases and reduce the need for overseas medical referrals.
She further explained that the hospital is equipped with advanced medical technology, enabling it to address a wide range of challenging health conditions while improving access to quality care for citizens.
Addressing the graduates, Mrs. Bio encouraged them to serve with professionalism, dedication, and compassion. She emphasized the critical role they are expected to play in strengthening the nation’s healthcare system and improving service delivery.

The First Lady expressed optimism that the newly trained healthcare workers would significantly enhance the health and well-being of Sierra Leoneans. She also called for collective efforts in building a stronger healthcare system for the country.
“May God bless Sierra Leone, and may we all work together towards a healthier nation,” she concluded.
