First Lady Fatima Maada Bio has said that the disagreement during the recently concluded 14th SLPP National Delegates Conference was an isolated incident and does not reflect any lasting divide between her and President Julius Maada Bio.
The conference brought together party delegates from across Sierra Leone to elect new executive members and discuss the party’s future plans. Among the key positions contested was the role of National Chairman. During the voting process, there was talk that the First Lady and the President supported different candidates, which sparked rumors of tension between the two.
In a statement released on August 11, Fatima Bio addressed these rumors, saying the issue was simply a difference of opinion and not a sign of any divide. She explained that it is normal for members of the same political party or family to hold different views during a democratic process. She also noted that the situation was being taken out of context by some observers.

She added that her relationship with the President is based on a strong personal bond that goes beyond politics. According to her, their connection remains solid and is not affected by disagreements in party meetings or conferences.
Fatima Bio responded to critics who used the event to launch personal attacks, reminding them that her loyalty and mission have not changed. She said her focus remains on supporting her husband, serving her party, and helping the SLPP prepare for the 2028 elections.

The First Lady also called on SLPP members and the public to keep their eyes on the bigger picture. She stressed that the party has a country to serve, a future to prepare for, and an important election to win in 2028. According to her, political events like the convention are just moments in time and should not distract from the ongoing work ahead.
Despite the speculation, Fatima Bio said the outcome of the conference does not alter her commitment. She said she will continue to support her husband, the SLPP, and the work they are doing for Sierra Leone, wherever and whenever she is needed.
