Fourah Bay College, one of the oldest universities in Africa, has raised concerns over the deteriorating condition of the road leading to its campus.

Dr. Tonya Musa, Director of Communications and International Relations at the University of Sierra Leone, called on the government and relevant authorities to intervene ahead of the resumption of classes.

Speaking in an interview with Liberty TV, he said, “The potholes start right from the Model Junction and continue up to the campus.”

Dr. Musa highlighted the risks posed to students and staff, noting that taxis used for transportation are often in poor condition, forcing many students to rely on motorcycles, which increases the likelihood of accidents.

He also revealed that the university had an agreement with a Chinese company to reconstruct the road, but the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), responsible for supporting the project, has shown little effort so far.

The university administration emphasized that the current state of the road poses serious risks to students, staff, and visitors, and urged the SLRA to take urgent action.
