A delegation from Fourah Bay College (FBC), led by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Andrew Baio, recently held discussions with the Director-General of the Sierra Leone Road Authority (SLRA), Ing. Alfred Jalil Momodu, regarding the deteriorating condition of the FBC road.

Professor Baio described the road as “dilapidated” and a “death trap,” emphasizing the need for immediate maintenance ahead of the college’s upcoming Bicentenary celebrations. He urged the SLRA to implement sustainable repairs to ensure safety for students, staff, and visitors.

In response, Ing. Momodu praised the FBC team for their proactive engagement and assured them that potholes along the road would be filled before the December 2025 congregation. He also highlighted a long-term plan, which includes paving the road and constructing proper drainage systems to prevent future deterioration.

Recent reports indicate that the University of Sierra Leone has expressed serious concern over the dangerous state of the road, noting the impact on the safety of students and staff.

The SLRA has committed to addressing these issues, with repairs scheduled to commence after the rainy season to ensure safe access to the college.

Both parties agreed on a strategic framework, clearly outlining their roles and responsibilities in ensuring the road’s rehabilitation.

The FBC delegation expressed appreciation for the SLRA’s responsiveness and commitment to addressing the critical infrastructure issue, reinforcing the importance of maintaining safe roads for educational institutions and the broader community.
