Prof. Kelleh Gbawuru Mansaray, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) of Fourah Bay College (FBC), University of Sierra Leone, recently celebrated two years in office, marking a period of remarkable infrastructural development and progress.

Appointed on October 1, 2022, Prof. Mansaray has been widely praised for his commitment to enhancing the academic and physical environment of Sierra Leone’s premier institution of higher learning.

One of his most significant achievements has been the establishment of a Fabrication Lab, a state-of-the-art facility designed for Engineering and Innovation students. The lab serves as a hub for creativity, giving students access to modern equipment that encourages research, innovation, and practical problem-solving skills.

Prof. Mansaray has also overseen several key infrastructure projects aimed at improving campus life. Under his leadership, the entrance and exit gates of the university were decorated, giving the college a refreshed and welcoming aesthetic. He also spearheaded the installation of solar-powered streetlights throughout the campus, significantly improving safety and convenience for students and staff during night hours.

Recognizing the need for reliable water access, Prof. Mansaray played a pivotal role in building a water reservoir to ensure a consistent water supply for students living in hostels. Additionally, he initiated the drilling of boreholes to further alleviate water scarcity issues on campus.

His administration has also focused on improving classroom conditions. Prof. Mansaray renovated existing classrooms and constructed new chairs, ensuring that students have a conducive learning environment. He also initiated the construction of a new access road with steps to shorten travel time within the campus, easing movement for students and staff. To address student transportation issues, he purchased brand new buses to provide efficient and affordable transport services.

Currently, efforts are underway to pave the campus grounds, making it easier for students to navigate the terrain. In addition, a transportation hub, dubbed the “Airport Pack,” is being constructed to serve students waiting for transportation and also upgrading staff offices to ensure a better working environment for faculty members.

As Prof. Mansaray marks his second year as DVC, his contributions have left an indelible mark on FBC, enhancing both the academic and physical landscape of the historic institution.
