The Freetown City Council (FCC) has taken a significant step towards integrating its “Freetown the Treetown” (FTT) project into the international carbon market.

A strategic meeting held on March 14, 2025, focused on the project’s progress in building climate resilience and promoting urban reforestation.

The meeting, led by the FTT project’s technical advisor for its carbon initiative, presented key findings from a feasibility study and business case. These insights provided a comprehensive assessment of the FTT carbon project’s viability and potential impact.

This engagement marks a critical milestone in aligning the FTT initiative with international carbon market standards, ensuring its long-term sustainability. The feasibility study’s findings are expected to provide a strong foundation for attracting necessary investments and scaling up the project’s impact.

The FCC highlighted that Freetown the Treetown is a leading example of how cities can actively address the effects of climate change through climate resilience and urban reforestation. The analysis provided by First Climate offers valuable insights into the project’s feasibility and its potential role in the carbon market.

“As the Global Impact Coalition Organization, we are thrilled to witness the progress being made by FTT, and we encourage all stakeholders to support this important initiative,” stated the Freetown City Council.
