FemmeTech, one of the standout young innovators emerging from the UNFPA and Ministry of Youth Affairs’ Young Women Leading Change Innovation Challenge, is gaining national attention for its commitment to building safer digital futures for girls across Sierra Leone.
Through a series of digital literacy and cyber safety trainings conducted in secondary schools, the young women-led initiative has been equipping girls with essential digital skills and the confidence to navigate online spaces responsibly and securely. Their work echoes the broader vision of promoting agency, opportunity, and safety for every girl, online and offline.
As the world commemorates International Human Rights Day and continues the global call to End Violence during the 16 Days of Activism, FemmeTech’s leadership stands as a powerful reminder that digital rights are human rights and that violence perpetrated online is just as harmful as violence anywhere else.
UNFPA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting young innovators like FemmeTech, noting that creating a safe digital environment requires intentional investment, collective responsibility, and sustained action.
“A safe digital world does not build itself,” the agency emphasized. “It takes people who care. It takes action. It takes all of us.”
