Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Finance has remitted a total of Fifty-Four Million Four Hundred and Forty Thousand and One Leones (NLe54, 440, 001) to the bank accounts of the country’s 22 Local Councils.
This significant transfer, part of the second tranche of grant allocations for the 2024 fiscal year, aims to bolster key devolved sectors.
A portion of the funds, totaling Two Million and Sixty-One Thousand Leones (NLe2,061,000), has been disbursed directly as cash to 1,330 Peripheral Health Centres (MCHP, CHP & CHC) across the country.
These funds are earmarked to support the administration and operation of these vital health facilities, which serve as the frontline of healthcare delivery in many communities.
The overall grant is intended to enhance the delivery of basic services across several sectors, including education, health, rural water supply, and social assistance programs targeting disabled and vulnerable populations. Additionally, the funds will support solid waste management initiatives and cover administrative expenses for the Local Councils.
This financial boost is expected to strengthen the capacity of local governments to provide essential services and improve the quality of life for citizens across Sierra Leone.
