A fire broke out at a building in Akram, located in eastern Freetown, around 8:30 PM on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
The blaze, captured in a viral Facebook video, completely gutted the first floor of the structure.
While the exact cause remains undetermined, many residents claim the fire was sparked by high-voltage electricity from the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA). The Freetown Fire Force responded swiftly, containing the flames and preventing further damage to nearby buildings. Their prompt action was commended by locals.
Observers say the incident underscores persistent electricity supply issues in the area, with some blaming EDSA for inadequate infrastructure management.
