Sierraloaded reports that the first consignments of the new Leones has arrived in Freetown.
Pictures of trucks carrying containers alleged to have the new Leones inside of them are being shared on social media. However, the Central Bank of Sierra Leone, Professor Kelfala Kallon is yet to confirm the arrival of the new Leones.
Meanwhile, Sierraloaded has obtained photos of the new legal tender.
Earlier last year Governor Kallon announced the domination in which the country’s new legal tender, Leones will appear.
He previously disclosed at the Bank Complex at Kingtom in Freetown that the government will remove three zeroes (Le,000) from the Leones in a scheme that would entail a de-nomination and the printing of new currency which he called the “New Leone.”
“The new Leone, as the new currency will be called, will be valued at around 10 to the US dollar,” the Bank governor told reporters.
As per law, the Bank of Sierra Leone is expected to give three months notice to the populace with regards the introduction of the new currency. In that light, Prof. Kallon has asked that the old currency be made available within this three month notice.
How far has the agreement gone in the parliament? Or where lies the delay for the use of the new currency: Parliament or Central Bank?
As I can see new currency note 1/2/5/10&20. Government must print 50 & 100 notes too make bigger transaction easy. Even 500 note will make things much better…
In this case less of small notes can be printed.
Government will save….
