There are reports of flooding in some parts of Freetown following continuous heavy down pour of rain in the evening hours of Monday, 15 August 2022.
Videos shared on social media show the streets of Freetown filled with water with vehicles and tricycles floating and finding it hard to pass through.
“Heavy downpour of rain in Freetown that has resulted to flooding in so many areas. Hope you are safe?” Mamadu Sallieu Barrie posted on Facebook.
“Wilkinson Road is flooded as it’s raining heavily in the capital of Sierra Leone, Freetown,” Sahr Kafineh posted.
August has always been a troublesome month for Sierra Leoneans. On August 14, 2017 a devastating flooding and landslide disaster ensued in Freetown, leading to the loss of more than one thousand lives and the destruction of properties worth millions of Leones.
