According to reports, three candidates have emerged to succeed Ernest Bai Koroma as the next national chairman of the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC), as the competition for the coveted position heats up in advance of the party’s National Delegates’ Conference (NDC), which will elect the 2023 presidential flagbearer and national executives officers.
The three candidates are the former Majority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Ibrahim Chernor Bundu, the former Deputy Chairman and Leader, Hon. Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray, and Ambassador John Yambasu, according to verified sources within the Transitional Interim Independent Elections Management Committee (TIIEMC).
The former Deputy Chairman and Leader, Hon. Minkailu Mansaray, stated at a recent fundraiser that he intends to lead the party because of his continued love and passion for it, as well as his propensity to support the grassroots while advancing the party’s philosophy. The former minister for mines and mineral resources also assured the crowd that if chosen to lead the APC in the upcoming NDC, he would continue to rally supporters and rally new members, increasing the likelihood that the party will triumph in the upcoming multi-tier elections on June 24, 2023.
Hon. Ibrahim Chernor Bundu, a former lawmaker and executive officer of his party, is another seasoned politician who talked to The Executive. In order to ensure a resounding victory in the general elections of 2023, Hon. Bundu claims that if elected to the highest position in the party, he would, among other things, reignite party interest and re-engage disgruntled party members.
Meanwhile, the newly formed 25-Man TIIEMC will shortly announce the formal schedule for the party’s lower-level elections, along with the requirements for candidates and voting procedures.
The 21-Man ITGC and the Political Parties Registration Commission have both approved the requirements for candidates who want to participate in all categories of elections, according to Lawyer Ibrahim Sorie Kamara, the chairman of the TIIEMC (PPRC). He also guaranteed that the PPRC’s recommendations and the court’s decision will be followed in the conduct of the national executive and lower-level elections.
