Sierra Leone’s Security Forces Accuse Armed Men at APC Headquarters of Firing Shots at Them

Tensions escalated in Freetown as Sierra Leone’s security forces alleged that they were fired upon from the headquarters of the All People’s Congress (APC) party.

According to the authorities, armed men hiding on the top floor of the building shot at the security forces, prompting a response.

The security forces presented evidence in the form of empty bullet shells from an AK-47 rifle and a pistol, which they claim came from the armed men inside the APC headquarters.

In a bid to establish transparency, the evidence was showcased to international observers.

The incident follows a planned “peaceful protest” organized by the APC on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, which tragically turned violent, resulting in the death of at least one APC supporter at their party headquarters in Freetown.

The APC had announced on Tuesday its intention to stage a nationwide peaceful protest in response to the Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mohammed Konneh, and his electoral commissioners’ refusal to resign or address their concerns regarding the upcoming elections. These concerns had been raised during an earlier press conference.

Originally scheduled for Sunday, the peaceful protest was postponed after the Inspector General of Police declined to grant approval, citing late notification as the reason for denial.

This decision seemingly heightened tensions among APC supporters, leading to the deadly confrontation at the party headquarters.

I watched it live on WI YARD, the police were firing tear gas canisters and later in the live broadcast we saw some men running with a man whom they say was fired by one tall OSD officer the man was fired on the chest , he was already dead at that time ,later we saw some men in military fatigue came and they started firing directly into the building, when they noticed that somebody was filming the act they requested that he turned it off, we're asking the international human rights organization to go on WI YARD THEY WILL SEE THE WHOLE TRUTH OF WHAT HAPPENED AT THE PARTY OFFICE , NOW A MILITARY SENIOR OFFICER IS SAYING THAT THEY RECEIVED FIRING FROM ARMED MEN INSIDE THE BUILDING , WHAT A MISS MATCH FORM THE HEADLINES AND NOW A SENIOR MILITARY OFFICER IS DEFENDING THE ACT , YOU GUYS WILL NEVER GO UNPUNISHED, GOD IN HEAVEN IS WATCHING YOU

That is good if they kill. Because you are all stupid, everyday you are dancing for politicians at the end of the day nobody know you. If you are supporting APC prove it on the ballot box no need to jump on the street to violate the law. They will continue killing you for nothing even Samura Kamara will not appreciate you. Have you ever see Samura Kamara children in the street or at APC party headquarters. Everyday politicians are fooling you.

Security personnel should be careful with the lies and the implications against citizens on this issues, where is the security personnel that was killed by the bullets, I'm disappointed in the Sierra Leone security sector especially the army and the police, the almighty God creator, will perish and judge you and your entire generations yet unborn "Amen"

The security I mean the police and the àrmy are both lieing on this issue they know very well that they're not saying the truth, there was no one with a gun in that building, the police and the àrmy did the shooting on the civilian population
