George Adams, a former military officer, ex-AFRC Minister, and member of the APC party, has been reportedly apprehended by the Sierra Leone Police (SLP).
Adams, identified as one of the ring leaders of the failed coup attempt on November 26th, was captured in Makeni, along with two other individuals.
The operation leading to Adams’ arrest was conducted under the direction of North-East AIG Edward Samadia, showcasing a coordinated effort by law enforcement. Prior to his apprehension, rumors circulated that Adams had been living in Freetown, specifically around the Lumley and Laka areas. However, authorities successfully tracked him down as he entered Makeni between the 6th and 7th of March.
The arrest reportedly took place at the residence of Dr. Moses Moris Kargbo, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of EBK University, where Adams was reportedly staying along with the caretaker Saidu Kargbo. Both Dr. Kargbo and Saidu Kargbo were also taken into custody.
Following the arrest, George Adams, Dr. Moses Moris Kargbo, and Saidu Kargbo were transported to the CID headquarters in Freetown for further questioning and processing. The swift action by the Sierra Leone Police underscores the government’s commitment to upholding law and order and ensuring the stability of the nation.
The failed coup attempt on November 26th sent shockwaves across Sierra Leone, prompting heightened security measures and a nationwide crackdown on suspected coup plotters. The arrest of George Adams, a prominent figure allegedly involved in orchestrating the coup, marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to dismantle any threats to the country’s democratic institutions.
Adams’ background as a former military officer and AFRC Minister adds gravity to his alleged involvement in the coup attempt. His affiliation with the APC party further complicates the political landscape, raising questions about potential motives and broader implications for the country’s political dynamics.
