Former President Ernest Bai Koroma, who has been residing in Nigeria since January 2024, is seeking a return to Sierra Leone, according to his legal counsel, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara.
Speaking on Radio Democracy 98.1FM’s Good Morning Show yesterday, Kamara disclosed that the former president is eager to return home, describing his stay in Nigeria as involuntary.
Kamara, who previously served as Attorney General under Koroma’s administration, stopped short of labelling his client’s situation as “exile” but stated that Koroma was forced to leave Sierra Leone without his consent.
“It is not the will of Former President Koroma to stay in Nigeria; he wants to come home,” Kamara emphasized. “We have engaged in conversations with ECOWAS and other stakeholders to facilitate a peaceful resolution, as Koroma’s presence is critical to the country’s peace and security.”
Koroma, who is reportedly focusing on his health and fitness, left Sierra Leone under controversial circumstances. On January 19, 2024, he was granted leave by the High Court to seek medical treatment in Nigeria for three months.
The court’s decision came amidst allegations of Koroma’s involvement in a failed coup attempt against President Julius Maada Bio’s administration—a charge the former president has consistently denied.
Kamara underscored Koroma’s desire to contribute to Sierra Leone’s national development and peace building efforts. “He sends his greetings to the people of Sierra Leone and remains committed to fostering lasting peace in the country,” Kamara stated.
The situation has sparked widespread speculation about a potential agreement that led to Koroma’s departure. Kamara did not confirm the existence of any deal but expressed hope for a resolution that would allow Koroma to return and clear his name.
As discussions with regional and international stakeholders continue, Koroma’s potential return remains a critical factor in Sierra Leone’s on-going efforts to maintain stability and address political tensions.
We are happy to hear about the good news
Come and answer yes or no?
Hmmm!
Come home legend, no place like home and I hope you already know 😊
Meanwhile, we pray that the said agreement goes on well in order to foster inclusive growth for Mama Salone 🙏🏼
What a nasty irony !
EBK seeks a medical sympathy.
I personally have pin him as the demon facilitating this nation’s backwardness. We’ll make sure he pay the price of all those whose blood are in his hand.
He’ll never enjoy the kind of atmosphere he had in this country like before. If Maada sympathise with him, we are going to make life unconformable for him, if he shows face back here. Better he stays there, but 8f he comes over, it will be obvious his properties will be ransacked
Just shut up.

Very hilarious 😆d man seek medical to leave this country, why he is afraid to return back… 😆.
Kamara just keep quite you and your god (ebk) have lost value in Sierra Leone…
How can someone who was never forced to go out of this country, be seeking for return?
Koroma escape court case in the name seeking medical attention isn’t it?
Absolutely my dear
The man with more BLESSINGS is seeking to return to the country he ran away from? Wow, has he lost respect in his safe heaven? EBK, you’re welcome back to where you belong. Your compatriots have kept your bed warm for you.
The bottom line is, Koroma is a notorious thief. He is a criminal and a murderer who can not be trusted. Let him stay in exile and bear the consequences of his actions. We do not need him in Sierra Leone. Let him stay in Nigeria and die like a pauper and a bastard.
