22 years old, Lawrence Kayode Oluyemi has on Wednesday 17th August 2022, made his first appearance before magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road court No.1 in Freetown on two-count charge to wit Conspiracy to defraud contrary to law and causing money to be paid contrary to section 32(1)(2)(a) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of offence on Wednesday 27th July 2022 at Hotel Mariam Aberdeen, in Freetown, the accused with intent to defraud conspired together with other persons unknown to defraud Tinjani Zubairu Gambo the sum of Three Thousand Five hundred United State Dollars(3,500) equivalent to Forty Nine Thousand Leones(49,000,000).
On count two, on the same date at Youyi Building Brookfields, in Freetown, the accused fraudulently caused Tijani Zubairu to Pay the sum of Three Thousand Five hundred United States Dollars( 3,500) equivalent to forty Nine Thousand Leones (49,000) to Ibrahim Lacho Purported to be a Gold Exporter.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused person, no plea was taken.
The Prosecutor Mohamed Lahai informed the Bench that his witnesses is absent and he seeks for a short adjourned date.
Counsel representing the accused Person, Abdul Aziz Bah applied for bail on behalf of the accused person. He said that the accused is a Sierra Leonean resident within this jurisdiction and has reliable sureties who are willing to go into recognisance on his behalf. He promised that he willl not interfere with the prosecution witness or witnesses. He made his application pursuant to Section 79(2) of the criminal Procedure Act No.32 of 1965.
However, Magistrate Ngegba refused bail and sent the accused person to the male correctional centre in Freetown.
The matter is adjourned to 24th August 2022. Sergeant 9939 Mohamed Lahai is prosecuting the matter.
