In a bid to tackle the city’s waste management challenges, the Freetown City Council has embarked on an initiative to increase the number of public trash bins available to residents.
This move, spearheaded by the Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr aims to make it easier for residents to dispose of small waste items like plastic bottles, water sachets, and paper packaging while on the go.
A video shared by the Mayor on social media confirms that the re-installation of the bins has commenced. These bins are intended to enhance the daily lives of Freetown residents by providing convenient trash disposal options.

However, they are not to be mis-used. “The litter bins are not for household or commercial waste!!” the Mayor warned.
