The Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs, in collaboration with key development partners, has engaged stakeholders in Bradford Chiefdom, Moyamba District, to advance the implementation of a new governance initiative that is aimed at strengthening inclusive service delivery.

The project, titled “Empowering Communities Through Gender-Responsive Local Governance: Building Institutional Capacity for Inclusive Service Delivery,” is supported by the Embassy of Iceland in Freetown and implemented in partnership with UN Women Sierra Leone, GADNET, ActionAid Sierra Leone, and the Ministry of Local Government and Political Affairs.

The engagement focused on popularising the project and outlining its objectives, with stakeholders drawn from across the chiefdom encouraged to take ownership of its implementation.

Addressing participants, the Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs expressed appreciation to the Embassy of Iceland for its continued support in promoting gender equality, women’s empowerment, and child protection in Sierra Leone. She also commended local stakeholders for embracing the initiative and urged them to support its rollout.

The Minister noted that the project is expected to strengthen institutional capacity at the local level, improve inclusive service delivery, and increase the participation of women and marginalised groups in governance processes.

She reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the effective implementation of the initiative, emphasising that it aligns with the government’s broader agenda of promoting gender equality, social inclusion, and the protection of women’s and children’s rights.

The Minister further thanked implementing partners for their collaboration, assuring that the project will be executed across selected districts and chiefdoms nationwide.
