Former Attorney General And Minister Of Justice Of The Republic Of Sierra Leone, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara has for a long time expressed views and concern over the publication of the final voter register ahead of the June 24th general elections.
Following the publication by the Electoral Commission For Sierra Leone (ECSL) on the 13th June 2023 informing the general public of conducting an early voting for presidential election from 7am to 5pm on Thursday, 15th June 2023 and that the election will be conducted for pilgrims who are registered voters and will be travelling to the holy land of mecca on religious pilgrimage to exercise their franchise before departure.
JFK praised the move, but expressed dissatisfaction over the late publication of the list of pilgrim voters in due time.
“Early voting means well in theory. But, where’s the list of pilgrim voters with visa and ticket invoice numbers, to confirm travel prior to the date of 24 June? Register of pilgrim voters like the final voter register is again in the secret vault at the ECSL. These re ghost pilgrims,” he stated.
Ecsl is trying to great war in Sierra Leone
As long as the pilgrims are Sierra Leoneans who were registered to vote, they should be allowed to cast their vote. No one should deny them their right to vote period. One thing I know is that in an election, the side that complains a lot about everything is the losing team. Elections require preparations. When a party fails to put their party in order before facing the general elections or goes to the general elections divided even within to their party, that party is destined to loss the election. This is true for both APC and SLPP.
Thanks be to God Almighty that I can now go to the holy land to perform my pilgrims. I have cast my vote, my heart is at rest.
