SEND Sierra Leone has welcomed a delegation from Germany’s TERRA TECH Förderprojekte e.V. for a comprehensive monitoring mission across four districts to assess the impact of development projects funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The delegation visited Kailahun, Kenema, Bo, and Pujehun districts to evaluate the implementation of the #FEED, #P7373, #WAREED, and #Anti-Drug initiatives.

Over the course of the mission, the team conducted site visits, inspected infrastructure, and held direct consultations with community leaders, teachers, women’s groups, farmers, youth, and local authorities.

The team observed the adoption of climate-resilient farming techniques and the functioning of school gardens, which are supporting nutrition and providing practical learning opportunities for pupils.

Newly installed water and sanitation infrastructure was inspected for functionality and community uptake. Communities now benefit from safer water sources that support household needs.

Solar systems were reviewed for reliability and their contribution to local livelihoods, including supporting small enterprises.

Awareness campaigns and youth engagement efforts were evaluated for reach and behavioural impact in communities affected by substance misuse.

Farmers reported increased yields and diversified income streams as a result of climate-smart techniques and targeted training.

School gardens and household-level interventions contributed to more consistent access to nutritious food for children and families.

Anti-drug awareness campaigns, combined with WASH improvements, are fostering safer and healthier environments for children and families.

Priority actions identified during the mission include scaling successful practices in climate-smart agriculture and renewable energy, strengthening monitoring and maintenance plans for water and sanitation facilities, deepening youth engagement in prevention and livelihood activities, and enhancing data collection to better capture outcomes and inform adaptive programming.

SEND Sierra Leone extended sincere appreciation to TERRA TECH and BMZ for their time, technical guidance, and commitment to community-driven development.

“The visit reaffirmed the value of partnerships grounded in accountability, learning, and a shared vision for lasting impact,” the organisation said in a statement.

SEND Sierra Leone says it remains committed to working alongside TERRA TECH and BMZ to deliver sustainable solutions that improve lives and create opportunities across the country.
