One of the best schools in the Southern Province before the 11 years war (from 23 March 1991 to 18 September 2002) was the Government Secondary School, Jimmy Bagbo.
Standard of education was sustained. It has teachers who were trained, qualified and experienced.
The teachers of Jimmy School were also devoted and committed to their work. They loved to work in the Jimmy environment.
These teachers made the pupils of the school to produce very good West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) Ordinary results. This made The Bo Government Secondary School a peripheral school for pupils with outstanding O’Level results from Jimmy School to enroll straight to Sixth Form.
This motivated many parents and guardians to send their children and wards to the school.
But this resounding performance of the school was cut short during the rebel war.
During the war, the Government Secondary School Jimmy Bagbo like so many other secondary schools in Sierra Leone were vandalisised by the rebels or sobels.
After the war, government both past and present have rehabilitated many of the schools that were destroyed during the war across the country.
However, Government is yet to renovate or rehabilitate Government Secondary School Jimmy Bagbo.
“From 2000 to now, Government has not supplied Government Secondary School, Jimmy Bagbo with bed and mattresses,” the Principal of the school, Mohamed Momoh Sarmu confirmed.
The enrollment of the school is 723. The administration of the school stopped admission because there is no accomodation for the pupils who wanted to be admitted to the school.
Teachers’ quarters are no more; they are dilapidated.
The school administration has rented a place within the township for some staff members to stay.
“The school library is without necessary books the Senior prefect of the school” Vandy Lahai, the senior prefect of the school lamented.
Notwithstanding these challenges, the principal of the school confirmed Government supplies teaching and learning materials as well as provide food for the pupils including other support.
