The Sierra Leone Government has announced that the price of petrol will remain unchanged at NLe32 per litre, while the price of diesel will increase to NLe35 per litre with immediate effect.

The announcement was made in a press release issued on March 14, 2026, by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education following a meeting between the government and oil marketing companies to review the global fuel market and its impact on prices and supply in the country.

According to the ministry, the discussions focused on the current state of the international oil market and the potential implications for the domestic fuel supply situation.

The Government of Sierra Leone met this week with Oil Marketing Companies to review the global fuel situation and what it means for prices and supply in Sierra Leone,” the ministry stated in the release.

The government explained that the global oil market is currently unstable due to developments in the Gulf region and disruptions affecting major oil shipping routes. Among the key routes mentioned is the Strait of Hormuz, which remains one of the world’s most important oil transit corridors.

Following the consultations with oil marketing companies, authorities confirmed that while petrol prices will remain steady at NLe32 per litre, diesel prices will rise to NLe35 per litre with immediate effect.

The government also disclosed that oil marketing companies have agreed not to increase fuel prices further for at least the next two weeks, regardless of changes in the global market during that period.

Authorities emphasized the importance of fuel to key sectors of the country’s economy, including transportation, electricity generation and daily activities. As a result, the government said it is maintaining close engagement with petroleum companies to manage the situation and ensure that fuel remains available nationwide.

The ministry added that the government will continue to monitor developments in the global oil market and keep the public informed about any future changes that may affect fuel prices or supply in Sierra Leone.
