Special Legal Consultant, Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lahai Momoh Farmah, on Wednesday 11th August 2021 told Awoko Newspaper that the office of the Attorney General will use law enforcement agencies to evict occupants of confiscated houses.
The decision to evict these occupants came after government gave fourteen days to these occupants for them to quit premises that have been confiscated and vested in the State by Law.
Following recommendations from the government white paper which was born out of a Commission Of Inquiry, government reached a decision to confiscate houses belonging to some politicians who served in the Koroma administration, including the former Minister of Education, Dr. Minkailu Bah.
Other affected persons are Leonard Balogun Koroma, former Minister of Transport and Aviation whose property situated at Alsheik Drive, Gbangbayillaa, Hill Station in Freetown, Abdul Ignosi Koroma whose property is situated at Tekko Barracks in Makeni, Northern Province.
Other individuals whose property has been confiscated and vested in the state include: Hilal Toufic Kange whose property situated at Nursery Land at Regent Road, Hill Station in Freetown. Another is Alimamy Kamara whose property is in Makeni, and the late Momoh Konteh who also served as Chairman of the country’s National Telecommunication Commission (NATCOM), and had his property lying and situated at Obama Junction, at Regent in Freetown.
Lawyer Farmah disclosed that some of the occupants of houses in the list for confiscation have handed over keys to the Attorney General’s Office while others are dragging their feet. He was however, not helpful with names of those who have handed over keys to the AG’s office.
Lawyer Farmah said it is not always the case that notice papers are plastered on the houses of property that are to be confiscated and vested in the state, but he revealed that these occupants have been served notices. “You can serve notice if you have the time to do so,” he said.
While he disclosed to Awoko Newspaper that reasonable time will be given to occupants, he also urged them to obey the law and vacate as per the 14 days notice given to them. “There is an agreement between those occupants and the government and every agreement should be adhered to,” he said.
“It will be respectful for you to park your things yourself rather than having someone parking them for you,” he said.
