The Government of Sierra Leone has confirmed that a total of 942 Sierra Leoneans have been received at the Kambia border following ongoing operations by Guinean authorities targeting undocumented foreign residents.
According to a press release issued on March 24, 2026, by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, the development stems from a clearance exercise conducted by authorities in Conakry, particularly in the Boulbinet port area on March 23.
The operation forms part of broader efforts by the Government of Guinea to dismantle informal settlements and identify undocumented foreign nationals. Sierra Leoneans were among those affected, including individuals without valid documentation.
The government stated that Sierra Leoneans with valid documentation were released, while those without legal status were scheduled for return to Sierra Leone.
Authorities in Freetown, through the Sierra Leone Embassy in Conakry, have engaged their Guinean counterparts to ensure the process is conducted in an orderly and humane manner, with full respect for the rights and dignity of those involved.
The return process is currently being jointly managed by officials of both countries at the border. Sierra Leonean authorities are receiving, screening, and documenting returnees, while also facilitating their safe and dignified reintegration into their respective communities.
“As of 24 March 2026, a total of 942 Sierra Leoneans, including adults and children, have been received at the Kambia border, with onward arrangements in progress,” the statement noted.
The government further assured the public that it will continue to monitor the situation closely while maintaining diplomatic engagement with Guinean authorities to ensure due process and the protection of Sierra Leonean nationals.
Members of the public have also been urged to remain calm and rely on verified information from official government channels.
