The Government of Sierra Leone has revealed payment of the second half of the financial year to the twenty two Local Councils in the country. The government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Finance has paid the sum of le37,004,200,000 into the respective administrative Bank Accounts of the twenty two local councils in the country.
The payment according to the Ministry of Finance is for the second half of the Financial Year of 2021. See the table below for the details of the payment.
The Ministry noted that the payment is in addition to le31,517,145,000 disbursed to local councils in quarter (1) of this year. Therefore, according to the Ministry, the cumulative transfers to councils in the 2021 financial year is le68,521,345,000.
The allocation and payment of funds to councils are based on council population, under five consultations, hospital utilization rate, total school enrollment, area of crop cultivation, population without access to safe drinking water, youth population and urban population among others.
The Ministry highlighted that upon receipt of the funds, local councils must transfer them into various devolved accounts as per schedule sent to them and that councils must display details of such devolved sectors, including amounts of council’s notice board and other places for the general public to have access to the financial flows.
