The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE), has announced the availability of scholarships from the Republic of Türkiye for the 2026/2027 academic year, offering Sierra Leonean students the opportunity to pursue higher education abroad.
The announcement was made in a public notice issued from the Ministry’s headquarters at New England Ville, Freetown. According to the Ministry, the scholarships will be administered through Türkiye Bursları, the official scholarship programme of the Turkish government, and are open to qualified Sierra Leonean candidates.
The Ministry stated that applications must be submitted online through the official Türkiye Bursları portals at [www.turkiyeburslari.gov.tr](http://www.turkiyeburslari.gov.tr) and tbbs.turkiyeburslari.gov.tr.
Applicants are required to upload a passport-size photograph, a copy of their passport, a birth certificate or national identification card, an English language proficiency certificate, academic certificates including transcripts and any additional achievement certificates. Candidates applying for research-based programmes are also required to submit a research proposal.
According to the notice, the deadline for submitting research proposals is February 15, 2026, which also serves as the final deadline for all online applications.
In addition to the online process, the Ministry emphasized that applicants must submit hard copies of all application documents. These documents must be hand-delivered to the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education at New England Ville, Freetown, on or before February 15, 2026.
Applicants have been instructed to clearly label their envelopes as “Application for Türkiye Scholarship Programs,” along with their full name, contact number, and email address.
The Ministry strongly encouraged all eligible and qualified candidates to apply within the stipulated timeframe, warning that failure to meet the requirements or deadlines could result in disqualification.
It noted that the Türkiye Scholarships cover a wide range of academic disciplines and provide comprehensive support, including tuition, accommodation, and living expenses.
The scholarship programme forms part of ongoing educational cooperation between Sierra Leone and Türkiye and is aimed at strengthening human capital development by equipping beneficiaries with internationally competitive skills and knowledge, the Ministry said.
